Critic’s Review

The Pour House is a pleasant surprise — a top-notch Indian restaurant in the middle of the desert, of all places.

I can’t imagine there’s much of an Indian community here in Pahrump to support a place like this, and while I personally love Indian food, I can easily see it being too adventurous for a lot of everyday Americans. This probably explains why Pour House has a separate American menu along with their Indian one. A business has to do what it has to do to survive, and I admire the owners here for adapting to their environment while also maintaining their heritage.

The first time I went here, I ordered off the Indian menu while my dining partner ordered off the American one. She got their New York steak special, which came with salad and “Indian” potatoes (basically mashed potatoes with a hint of Indian spices). She loved it and for $20 you really can’t beat it.

As for Indian food I was happily impressed with everything I ordered. I loved the Paneer Tikka Masala with its generously large cubes of cheese. The Chicken Curry was delicious with nice lean pieces of chicken. The Vegetable Samosas I could have eaten all day long — I’m not sure what spices they use but its amazing and addictive. Also their Lamb Naan was excellent.

I have yet to personally try anything off their American menu — their Indian food is too good!

They have a full bar which is a huge plus to me. I really do like being able to have a cocktail or two before my meal. There are video poker machines at the bar which — hey, they gotta make money. If it helps keep them in business, I’m all for it.

The restaurant is attached to the Best Western hotel but has its own separate entrance. The atmosphere is comfortable and not too loud. There is another section on the other side which is currently under construction. I understand they’re putting in a distillery, which I look forward to trying (and reviewing) once it opens.

Overall, the Pour House is a great place to go as it has something for everybody — American food, Indian food, and drinks. The Indian food is top-notch and I will be back a lot for the Samosas!
