Critic’s Review
In short, Stockman’s Steakhouse is the best restaurant in Pahrump. Full stop.
I realize that being the “best” in a small town like this one may not be as great an achievement, nevertheless I think Stockman’s could easily hold its own even if it were in Vegas, or some other big city. It’s my own personal go-to whenever I have guests in town, or whenever I’ve had a busy day and a good meal is just what I need to help unwind.
Why do I recommend Stockman’s so highly? First, the service. The staff are excellent — friendly, attentive, classy. Many have been there for a long time, which I find reassuring. It doesn’t matter whose table you get — Jacqui, Anthony, DeMarco, or anyone else — you know you’ll be well taken care of. The manager, Derek, who often doubles as bartender, exudes an “old-school” vibe which I appreciate — and he knows how to make a mean cocktail too! I like to go places where I’m treated well, and Stockman’s always does.
Now let’s talk about the food. It’s a steakhouse, so of course I go for the best, the filet mignon. Theirs is tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Their prime rib is also a solid choice, although for that I generally prefer to go to the café next door, where you get the same exact prime rib (sans the fancy accoutrements) for half the price. While its not my thing personally, according to my family the pork chop is very good as well.
The entrées are served a la carte, except they do include a choice of soup or salad. In terms of soup, their lobster & shrimp bisque is excellent, as is their french onion. I can’t speak to their house salad as I always opt for either their caesar or wedge salad for a small extra cost — both are worth it. If you decide to add some sides, they have your standard potato and vegetable options available. Nothing bad here, but nothing too remarkable either. If I had to pick a favorite, I’d suggest the sautéed mushrooms.
For appetizers I highly recommend the mushrooms stuffed with Italian sausage — they’re delicious, or, in second place, go for the crab cakes.
Dessert-wise, I recommend the chocolate lava cake, which comes with a bit of vanilla ice cream. Their cheesecake is also a good option.
Stockman’s passes the Iced Tea Test with flying colors — they have real, brewed iced tea. It’s a standard black tea, probably Lipton. And, because the staff is on top of things, you never have to worry about your glass going empty.
As for the atmosphere, it’s your typical dark steakhouse-vibe, generally quiet (depending on who’s there) with soft background music. They do have these great cowhide-covered chairs which I would love to steal for my house if I could!
The only bad thing I can say about this restaurant is that they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Reservations are required, although when I call them I’ve never had any problems getting in the same day.
Stockman’s Steakhouse is my first choice in Pahrump whenever I want a good steak, or just a relaxing meal.
